Description
Learn how to make the best candy apple bags at home with this simple and delicious recipe. Perfect for fall treats, Halloween snacks, or even as a fun activity at parties.
Ingredients
Scale
Apples:
- 6–8 medium apples, washed and dried completely
Syrup:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup water
Additional:
- Red food coloring (optional)
- Wooden sticks for apples
- Cooking spray or butter (for tray)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Insert wooden sticks into the top of each apple and set aside.
- Prepare Syrup: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil without stirring and heat to 300°F (hard crack stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Dip Apples: Remove from heat and carefully stir in food coloring if desired. Dip each apple into the hot syrup, turning to coat. Let excess drip off and place on prepared sheet to cool and harden completely.
- Package: Once fully set, package in gusset-style clear cellophane bags. Tie with a ribbon or twist tie for a clean, professional look.
Notes
- For best results, use food-safe cellophane bags that are 4″ x 9″ x 2″ with a gusset. Gold Medal #4007 bags or ClearBags’ gusseted options are recommended. Avoid sandwich bags—they’re too small and not food-safe for sticky coatings.
