Description

These spiced snickerdoodles are a delightful twist on the classic cookie, with warm flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves adding a cozy touch. They are soft, chewy, and perfect for holiday baking.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Spiced Sugar Coating:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Mix in dry ingredients: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Prepare spiced sugar coating: In a small bowl, combine the rolling sugar with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  7. Shape and coat dough: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat each in the spiced sugar mixture.
  8. Bake: Place on prepared baking sheets, bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set and centers are soft.
  9. Cool and serve: Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, slightly underbake and let them set on the sheet.
  • These cookies freeze well and taste even better the next day.
  • Adjust spice levels to your taste for a bolder flavor.
