Description

These Southern Fried Salmon Patties are a classic Southern dish that is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. Made with canned salmon, these patties are easy to prepare and perfect for a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (14.75 oz) pink salmon (drained, bones and skin removed)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the salmon, onion, bell pepper (if using), cornmeal, flour, egg, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully combined but not overworked.
  2. Form the mixture into 6 to 8 equal-sized patties.
  3. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, gently place the patties in the pan and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes

  • These patties are great served with tartar sauce, hot sauce, or a side of grits or coleslaw.
  • You can substitute crushed saltines or breadcrumbs for the cornmeal for a different texture.
