Cake:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup Southern Comfort (or other whiskey liqueur)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease and flour a 10-inch bundt or tube pan.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, shortening, and sugar until light and fluffy, about 4–5 minutes.
  3. Add Eggs and Dry Ingredients: Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Mix Wet and Dry: In a measuring cup, combine the milk and Southern Comfort. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
