  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the batter in the dish.
  3. Prepare the topping: In a separate bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle over the batter. Slowly pour hot water over the top without stirring.
  4. Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes until set on top and gooey below. Cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.
  5. Serve: Spoon into bowls and enjoy, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
