For the Cookies:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Red or pink food coloring
- Sprinkles or sanding sugar for edges (optional)
Instructions
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Mix Dough: Add the flour and salt, mix until a soft dough forms.
- Color Dough: Divide the dough in half. Tint one portion with food coloring.
- Shape Dough: Shape colored dough into a log and refrigerate. Repeat with uncolored dough.
- Assemble Cookies: Slice and cut out heart shapes from both logs. Stack the hearts, wrap, and chill.
- Bake: Slice into cookies, roll edges in sprinkles if desired, and bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.
- Cool: Cool on a wire rack.
