Description
These saucy, smoky baked beans are a perfect side dish for any barbecue or gathering. Packed with flavor from bacon, molasses, and spices, these baked beans are sure to be a hit.

Baked Beans:
- 4 cups canned navy beans, drained and rinsed (about 2–3 15-ounce cans)
Sauce:
- 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook Bacon: Cook the chopped bacon in a skillet until crisp. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté Onion: In the same skillet, sauté the onion until soft. Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Prepare Sauce: Add ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, spices, and water. Mix well.
- Combine Ingredients: Stir in beans and half of the bacon. Simmer briefly.
- Bake: Transfer skillet to the oven and bake for 45 minutes.
- Serve: Top with remaining bacon before serving.
Notes
- For vegetarian version, omit bacon and use olive oil for sautéing.
- Add liquid smoke for smoky flavor.
- Beans can be made a day ahead for better flavor.
