Ingredients
Scale
Bread:
- 4 slices thick-cut bread (brioche or challah preferred)
Egg Mixture:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
- Pinch of salt
For Cooking:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Powdered sugar and fresh berries (optional), for topping
Instructions
- Prepare Custard Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Dip Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides well but not oversoaking.
- Cook French Toast: Heat butter in a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the soaked bread slices for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Serve warm with maple syrup poured over the top. Garnish with powdered sugar and berries if desired.
Notes
- Stale bread works best as it absorbs the custard without falling apart.
- You can use dairy-free milk and butter substitutes if needed.
