  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)

For the frosting:

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cupcake pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
  2. Prepare the cupcake batter: Prepare the vanilla cake mix according to package directions. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  3. Fill the cupcake liners: Fill each cupcake liner halfway with batter, add cinnamon-sugar mixture, then top with more batter. Swirl the cinnamon mixture through the batter and drizzle melted butter on top of each.
  4. Bake the cupcakes: Bake for 18–22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
