- 1 box chocolate fudge cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
For the caramel layer:
- 1 (14 oz) bag caramels (unwrapped)
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cut into pieces)
For the topping:
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the cake: Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions. Pour half of the batter into the pan and bake for 15 minutes.
- Make the caramel layer: In a saucepan over low heat, melt the caramels with evaporated milk and butter until smooth.
- Layer the cake: Pour the warm caramel mixture over the partially baked cake layer. Sprinkle pecans and chocolate chips on top. Spoon the remaining batter over the caramel layer.
- Bake: Bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until set. Let cool before slicing.
