Chili Sauce Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1–2 teaspoons chili powder (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat and sauté onion: Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more, releasing its aroma.
- Incorporate tomato paste: Add the tomato paste and cook for another minute to deepen its flavor.
- Add remaining ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
- Adjust seasoning and blend: Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Let the sauce cool slightly, then blend with an immersion blender for a smoother texture if desired.
- Serve: Serve the chili sauce warm or chilled as a flavorful condiment.
