Description

Indulge in the aromatic and spiced goodness of Chai Cinnamon Rolls. These delightful rolls are infused with a chai spice mix, filled with a buttery, chai-spiced sugar filling, and topped with a luscious chai cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

Chai Spice Mix:

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice

Dough:

  • 2 cups warm whole milk
  • 1/2 cup neutral oil (such as avocado oil)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon chai spice mix

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chai spice mix

Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 11 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon chai spice mix

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, warm milk, oil, and sugar until sugar dissolves; let cool until just warm.
  2. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in 4 cups of flour to make a soft dough. Cover and let rise 1 hour.

  3. Punch down dough and mix in remaining flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and chai spice mix.
  4. Roll dough into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick. Spread melted butter evenly over dough, then sprinkle evenly with both sugars mixed with chai spice. Roll up tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal rolls. Place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  5. Cover and let rise 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake 25–30 minutes until golden.
  7. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, cream, vanilla, and chai spice; beat until fluffy. Spread over warm rolls.

Notes

  • Infusing chai spice into the dough, filling, and frosting ensures a deeply aromatic flavor.
  • Rolls are best served warm but can be stored covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for 4–5 days.
