For the Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 small head green cabbage (cored and chopped)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (undrained)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional)
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to wilt.
- Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir to combine everything well.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 10–12 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.
- Uncover and sprinkle cheese on top, if desired. Let it melt before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.
