For the filling:

  • 34 medium apples (peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the crust: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg until dough forms. Press half into pan for crust.
  3. Prepare the filling: Toss apples with sugar, flour, spices, and lemon juice. Spread over crust.
  4. Add the topping: Crumble remaining dough over the apples.
  5. Bake and glaze: Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden. Cool, then drizzle with glaze.
